MAMMOTH LAKES, Mono County — October 27, 2026. Mammoth Lakes is building a new space for theater, music and community arts, with a projected opening in spring or summer 2027. The Dave and Roma McCoy Arts and Cultural Center is planned as a 259-seat performance venue, according to the municipality’s published construction and staffing update.
How far had construction progressed?
In its August 21 community bulletin, the town reported completed underground utilities, foundations, concrete slab and structural columns, with perimeter concrete block walls reaching up to 46 feet. At that point, installation of the steel roof was identified as an upcoming stage, followed by work to enclose the building before winter.
Town staff then expected interior mechanical and electrical systems and specialized theater equipment, including lighting, sound and projection, to be installed during winter and spring. This was the schedule published in August, not independent confirmation that every stage is now complete.
Who will manage arts programming?
The town selected David Baron, described as a local theater, media and technology professional, as its new Arts and Culture Manager. His assignment is to help prepare programming, partnerships and opening operations, working with Mammoth Lakes’ arts community.
Opening a building and establishing a full cultural calendar are related but separate tasks. A proposed schedule should not be mistaken for booked performers, ticket prices or confirmed first-show dates.
What to watch next
Residents can follow council agendas, construction photographs and town recreation updates for confirmation of roof work, indoor equipment installation and a final public opening announcement. The new center may create opportunities for local artists and nonprofit organizations, but individual programming and rental arrangements remain to be announced.
