MAMMOTH LAKES / MONO COUNTY — NOVEMBER 5, 2026. Mono County Sheriff-Coroner Ingrid Braun has been reappointed to California’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), according to an official announcement released November 4. Braun has served on the commission since 2020.
What the commission does
POST has statewide responsibilities relating to the training, certification and professional standards of peace officers. Its decisions affect departments of different sizes, from rural sheriff’s offices to large urban agencies. A county sheriff’s participation provides a voice familiar with the practical challenges of serving widely separated mountain and desert communities.
Background
The governor’s office says Braun has served as Mono County sheriff since 2014. Before her work in the Eastern Sierra, she held positions in the Los Angeles Police Department, including lieutenant, and served briefly as a reserve officer with Mammoth Lakes Police Department. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a political science degree.
Appointment process
The release states that the position requires Senate confirmation and carries no compensation. The announcement therefore should not be confused with final Senate action, a new election for sheriff or a change in Mono County’s day-to-day patrol arrangements.
