MAMMOTH LAKES, MONO COUNTY — November 5, 2026. Motorists entering and leaving Mammoth Lakes on State Route 203 should prepare for temporary one-way traffic control on Monday, November 9. Caltrans District 9 says crews will seal cracks in the pavement between Mammoth Scenic Loop Road and Forest Trail Road from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
How long could traffic wait?
The agency estimates delays of up to 10 minutes. One-way control ordinarily allows traffic in alternating directions under work-zone supervision, but drivers should obey actual signs and flaggers. The announcement does not state that the entire highway will close to travel or that resorts and nearby businesses are inaccessible.
Why seal pavement cracks?
Routine sealing helps keep water out of pavement and reduces the development of larger defects, a practical concern in mountain communities facing freeze-thaw cycles. The work occurs as visitors begin preparing for winter recreation, making accurate planning especially important for workers, school trips and travelers arriving from U.S. 395.
Check before traveling
The schedule is weather and operational dependent, and the same Caltrans bulletin states no highway work is planned Wednesday November 11 for Veterans Day. For updates, consult QuickMap rather than assuming the planned restriction is active all day.
